This collection was accessioned in October of 2023 during the 125th Founders Day Events for Zeta Tau Alpha.
Zeta Tau Alpha was founded by nine students at the Virginia State Female Normal School (now Longwood) on October 15,1898. In 1909, when the sorority joined the National Panhellenic Conference to expand they were forced to close their chapter at State Famale Normal School, becuase NPC had rules agianst chapters at "sub-collegiate schools". In 1949, members of the local sorority Mu Omega were chosen to be reinstated as the Alpha Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha. For their 75th anniversary Zeta Tau Alpha gifted Longwood with an academic ceremonial mace, which was designed by Stanley Lechtzin.
This is an artificial collection including copies of photographs, and documents from the Zeta Tau Alpha National Archives, which relate to Longwood and ZTA history. The collection also includes a set of jewlery and badges for the organization.
These are copies of records and photographs from the National Office of ZTA Archives. They are related to Longwood History and include images from the dedication of the plaque in the Rotunda in 1948, photos from the late 1800s around the time ZTA was founded and articles about Longwood in the ZTA magazine.
