Abstract
This collection contains the papers of University of Richmond alumni, David E. Howard , who graduated from Richmond College in 1977. Howard wrote for The Collegian student newspaper and served as editor during his junior year as well as working for The Richmond Times-Dispatch and other media outlets. The David E. Howard Journalism Scholarship at the University of Richmond was established by family and friends in his memory.

Biographical / Historical

This collection contains the papers and work of University of Richmond student and alum, David E. Howard , RC 1977. While in high school, Howard was the news director for WTSL, a radio station in Lebanon, New Hampshire and served as an on-air news anchor for WNNE-TV in Hanover, New Hampshire . Howard wrote for The Collegian student newspaper and served as editor during his junior year. He also interned with and worked for the Richmond Times Dispatch while he attended college. After graduating in May 1977, Howard passed away 11 October 1977 from a brain aneurysm. His short career encompassed a significant variety of print and broadcast journalism work. The David E. Howard Journalism Scholarship at the University of Richmond was established by family and friends in his memory.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains materials primarily related to David E. Howard's time and career at the University of Richmond in the mid-1970s. Included are personal and professional materials which reflect his interests, life and work during the time he spent at the university.

Series 2: University of Richmond & The Collegian , focuses on Howard's time at the University of Richmond, from his acceptance to graduation. Included are correspondence with faculty and staff and some assignments he completed. The largest portion relates to his work with The Collegian , UR's student newspaper. Howard wrote for the paper and served as editor-in-chief during his junior year. The series also contains information on the scholarship established at UR in his memory.

Other materials highlight Howard's work for other newspapers and radio stations as well as his efforts to secure employment after graduation
