Title
Bound Case Materials for Walsh v. Preston, also called the Mercer Colony Case undated
Heavily annotated documentation of a late 19th century Texas case concerning a pre-statehood land grant. The case was heard
by the U.S. Fifth Circuit in 1879 and by the Supreme Court in 1882.
William Preston (1816-1887) represented the Texas Association, a joint stock company, in a claim related to a land grant in
northern Texas, originally granted to Charles Fenton Mercer by the state of Texas.
This volume contains notes by William Preston bearing dates of March and April of 1883 on Walsh v. Preston, as argued before
the United States Supreme Court on 13 March 1883. Following these notes are case materials and Preston's notes on earlier
opinions of the Texas 5th District Court and the U.S. Supreme Court regarding the Texas Association case.
