Scope and Contents

According to papers in this collection from 1955, the Virginia Nurses Association was known as the Graduate Nurses Association of Virginia. By the following year, 1956, in April the stationery letterhead changed from the Graduate Nurses Association of Virginia to Virginia State Nurses Association. In 1962 the word, "State" was dropped from the name and it became the Virginia Nurses' Association. Today the name no longer contains the apostrophe. District IX of the VNA included the counties of Highland, Rockingham, Bath, Alleghany, Rockbridge, and Augusta.
