John Cherry Monks, Jr. was born in 1910 and graduated VMI in 1932. He was a writer, director, producer, and the co-author (with Fred Finklehoffe) of the theatrical production "Brother Rat."
The John C. Monks, Jr. papers consist of the personal papers of Monks, including: Material related to the theatrical production of "Brother Rat," such as a contract, original script, and receipts for services from Garson Kanin Items concerning various VMI Class of 1932 reunions Photographs A typescript manuscript (1944) of the book "A Ribbon and A Star: The Third Marines at Bougainville" (Holt, 1945)
Certificate from the VMI Class of 1932 appointing Ronald Reagan an honorary Brother Rat, signed by John C. Monks, Jr. Reagan played a role in the movie version of "Brother Rat." Also included is a letter from Reagan (dated June 15, 1982) acknowledging the certificate.
