This collection consists of World War II papers that document the United States Army service of George J. Tompkins, Jr. (VMI Class of 1944). Included is General Eisenhower's letter to the troops that were about to participate in the D-Day invasion (June 1944), and a similar item from President Roosevelt.
George J. Tompkins, Jr.'s oral history interview about his World War II service is available online . His written war service memoirs (11 pages) are in the VMI at War project files.
