Alastair Reid was born in Galloway, Scotland in 1926. He served in the navy before going to the University of St. Andrews. After graduating he traveled extensively, working for the New Yorker Magazine, writing poetry, and studying and translating South American Literature. His most famous works are Wherabouts (1987), Weathering (1978), and To Lighten My House (1953).
The collection contains a single poem, "1973/1974," published "as a New Year 1974 Greeting. For Ruby and Larry Wallrich and Alastair Reid."
