The John Rigg Estate Account was purchased by Special Collections and University Archives in 1988.
The processing and description of the John Rigg Estate Account commenced and was completed in April, 2021.
John Rigg, who died ca. 1798, appears in the Pennsylvania septennial census for 1786 as a resident of Washington County, Pennsylvania. The estate account in this collection idenfitifies the estate administrator as Gwen Rigg, likely also the wife of John Rigg.
The John Rigg Estate Account contains the account transactions of Gwen Rigg, acting as administrator of the estate of John Rigg. Included are descriptions of payments and disbursements made by the administrator.
Although this item was long identified as having originated in Washington County, Virginia, a closer examination in 2021 of the contents and the names of those involved suggests that it is from Washington County, Pennsylvania.
