The processing and description of the Grafton County, New Hampshire, General Store Daybook commenced and was completed in October 2017.
This collection consists of a single daybook maintained by the proprietor of an unidentified mid 19th-century general mercantile store, likely conducting business in Grafton County, New Hampshire. While most of the sales are to individual customers, a number are to "Mn. [Maine?] Lumber Company" and several camps (probably logging camps). The entries note sales of foodstuffs, tobacco, and hardware items. Inserted in the daybook is a letter addressed to Ralph C. Stephenson of Kittery, Maine, from G. Wm. Pickering of Bangor, regarding stock shares. The letter seems to have no direct connection to the daybook. (Identification of the daybook's origin was determined through searches of the 1850 and 1860 censuses against names of customers appearing in the daybook.)
