The Office of Inspector General was created in 1777 to improve the training, discipline, morale, and efficiency of troops within the Continental Army. The office continues to fill that role in the United States Army by monitoring and reporting to the Secretary of the Army and the Army Chief of Staff on compliance with Army rules and regulations with regard to personnel, property, accounting, and record-keeping.
This collection contains a set of numbered inspection guides issued by the United States Army's Office of the Inspector General on October 15, 1930. Within the collection are procedural guidelines for inspection of the following: a War Department office (Guide No. 2); post and troops (No. 4); ports, transports, harbor boats and mine planters (No. 7); service school (No. 8); National Guard organizations (No. 9); recruiting services (No. 10); national cemeteries (No. 12); unit and similar funds (No. 14); sales stores (No. 15); remount depots (No. 17); laundries (No. 19); and warehousing (No. 23).
The collection is arranged by guide number.
