The collection consists of re-purposed address book with compiled, handwritten and typed recipes, almost all of which are for pickles, relishes, and a few other pickled, canned, or preserved items. In addtion, there are some loose sheets of paper with shopping lists and related notes. Many of the recipes are for large quanities (i.e. 45 gallon barrels) and a few contain notes about costs and overhead, suggesting it may be been kept by someone who was in the pickle-selling business. The book orginates from Portland, Oregon, but no names are included.
