John Preston (d. 1982) was descended from Col. William Preston and lived at Greenfield in Fincastle, Botetourt County, Virginia.
This collection largely consists of journals written by John Preston in which he recorded his daily activities. Entries include accounts of his work with the Red Cross, home improvement projects, time spent with friends, and various hobbies such as golfing. He records temperatures daily and notes his involvement in many organizations such as the American Legion, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Botetourt Country Club. As his health declines, he notes doctor's visits and hospitalizations.
The collection also includes some paper ephemera, collected by Preston in his diary from 1982. This includes photographs, newspaper clippings, golf scoresheets, and other memorabilia.
This collection is arranged chronologically.
