Biographical Note

Isaac James Horne (1801-1878) was a merchant from Glade Springs, located in Washington County, Virginia. After marrying Eliza Talbert in 1827, Horne began working at the Stagecoach Inn run by his in-laws Bazel and Mary Talbert. After their deaths, the Hornes inherited the inn, and they enslaved at least seven people, including four children, who worked at the inn and surrounding property. Isaac Horne later sold leather goods to Confederate troops during the American Civil War. Outliving his two children and Eliza, Horne died in 1878. His grandchildren took over the Stagecoach Inn in Glade Springs.
