Adolph Samuel (Sam) Bair was born to Robert T. and Mabel C. Bair on February 18, 1902, in Beckley, West Virginia. He was a student, member of the Corps of Cadets, and part of the Cosmopolitan Club in his freshman and senior years at Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute (VPI). He graduated in 1924 with a degree in Industrial Education.
Bair later worked as a car salesman and auto agency manager. In the 1940 census, he is listed as Vice President of Bair Brothers, and James W. Bair, likely Adolph's brother, is listed as the company's bookkeeper.
Bair married Jesse Coleman Gatherum in 1933, and they had at least one son, Samuel A. Bair. Adolph Samuel Bair died in Beckley on March 22, 1988.
