This collection was acquired by the Special Collections and University Archive in July 2024.
The processing, arrangement, and description of the V.P.I. Research Division Pistonphone was completed in June 2025.
This pistonphone is housed inside of a wooden box with two metal buckle closures. Labels between the buckles read "V.P.I. RESEARCH DIVISION 0400" and "BRUEL & kJAER." There are two additional labels on the back of the box that read "B & K INSTRUMENTS, INC. 5111 EST 164 STREET CLEVELAND, OHIO 44142 (216)267-4800" and "BRUEL & KRAJER TYPE 4220 SERIAL 210273." Stamped on the back of the box below these labels is "Made in Denmark." Inside the wooden box is a black velvet lining with inlays that hold the four pieces of the pistonphone. A black strap on the interior lid of the box holds four sheets of paper that deal with cerifictation and proccessing of the pistonphone. The condition is good, minor marks on the wooden box.
