John S. McCutchan graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1871.
This collection consists John McCutchan's chemistry notebook, certificates he received while a student at Washington College, now Washington and Lee University, and a certificate acknowledging his election into the Alumni Association. The notebook documents notes he took while a student in J. L. Campbell's class for the 1868-1869 academic year. The first page is a handwritten "Syllabus of Lecture I" and ends with his notes from Lecture XVIII on the last pages. The certificates range in date from 1868-1870 and acknowledge McCutchan's proficency in mathematics, chemistry, and modern languages. The Alumni Association certificate is dated 1871 and signed by members.
