Biographical / Historical

Jackson Morton attended W&M around 1811-1814. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Florida and went into the lumber business. He held several public positions including territorial legislator, U. S. Senator, and Confederate congressman. Morton carried the title of general until his death in 1874.

Certificate issued by the Governor of Florida commissioning Jackson Morton Brigadier General of the First Brigade of the Florida Militia, May 19, 1846.
