Processing Information:
Acc. 2011.638 accessioned and minimally processed by Steven Bookman, University Archives Specialist, in October 2011. This
collection was processed by Ashley Dean, SCRC intern, from February-March 2014.
Appraisal Information:
Documents in folders and binders were rehoused in acid free folders and boxes. Duplicates of materials, including literature,
contact lists and newspaper articles were removed, as were documents containing sensitive information, such as copies of donor
checks.
Jeffrey B. Trammell's papers document his work as National Chair of Business Outreach and liaison for gay and lesbian constituents
for the Al Gore/Joe Lieberman presidential campaign of 2000. The collection does not contain information regarding Jeffrey
Trammell's personal life or his time serving as College of William and Mary's Rector.
Correspondence between Trammell and his colleagues demonstrate the role he played in fundraising for the Gore campaign, as
well as his political activism regarding equal rights for gay and lesbian citizens. Newspaper and magazine articles collected
by Jeffrey Trammell depict public opinion on the Gore campaign and LGBTQ issues, while campaign literature focuses on Gore's
stance of equal rights for the LGBTQ community.
Internal documents, such as campaign business and fundraising planning documents, agendas, manuals, speeches, research notes
on LGBTQ rights, donor lists, and endorsements, provide insight into what goes on behind-the-scenes in a presidential campaign
and the work conducted by Jeffrey Trammell in an effort to elect Gore for president. Handwritten notes by Trammell are included,
largely consisting of 'To-Do' lists, campaign plans, and business contacts.
Memorabilia has been removed from the collection, including Gore campaign buttons and bumper stickers, as well as "John Kerry
for President" stickers and added to Artifacts collection.
This collection has been arranged into six series: Series 1: Correspondence; Series 2: Internal Documents; Series 3: Directories
and Donor Lists; Series 4: Endorsements; Series 5: Literature; Series 6: News Articles.

"Gore 2000" bumper stickers and buttons, "United Against United" stickers (UA 2011.638.01), and "John Kerry for President"
stickers from 2004 have been pulled from this collection and are now housed in the University Archives Artifact Collection.
Materials separated from 2011.638 on October 21, 2011, include Gore 2000 bumper stickers and buttons and "John Kerry for President"
stickers (2004). "United Against United" stickers (UA 2011.638.01) were separated from the same collection on March 5, 2014.
They a are now housed in the University Archives Artifact Collection (UA 13).
Series 1 includes correspondence sent and received by Jeffrey B. Trammell in regards to planning the Gore 2000 campaign, primarily
consisting of printed e-mails from colleagues, internal facsimiles and memorandums, as well as requests from organizations
for Gore to speak at fundraisers and "Thank-you" letters to campaign donors. The series is arranged chronologically.
Series 2 contains internal documents created and collected by Jeffrey Trammell for the Gore 2000 campaign. The series consists
of materials related to Clinton/Gore 1996 campaign research, Business Outreach Committee, National Gay and Lesbian Committee,
fundraising events, the Democratic National Convention Delegate selection, and brief instructions for the Florida ballot recount.
The majority of these are planning documents, some of which are handwritten notes by Jeffrey Trammell. Research files collected
by Trammell consist of literature, news articles, and legislation on LGBTQ issues. Documents and literature sent from White
House staff to Trammell are also included.

Series 3 contains lists of donors to the Gore campaign, as well as directories of business contacts and potential supporters,
including LGBTQ elected officials across the United States. The series is arranged in the order the creator sent the items.
Series 4 consists of individual pledges of endorsement for the Gore/Lieberman campaign. It is arranged by groups who endorsed
Gore, including Gay and Lesbian Lawyers for Gore, Gays and Lesbians for Gore, and predominantly Business Leaders for Gore.
Series 6 contains newspaper and magazine articles, some of which are printed, full and partial newspapers, and press releases
discussing Gore's campaign and current LGBTQ issues. The series is arranged by type and then chronologically.
