The provost is the chief academic and budget officer of the College of William and Mary. Reporting to the President, the provost is senior among the six College administrators at the vice-presidential level. The Provost is responsible for all academic and research programs, academic budgets, institutional planning, space allocation, and faculty development. This series contains papers related to the restructuring of the College of William & Mary and the development and publication of the strategic plan, Into the Fourth Century: Principles of Partnership, assessment reports from subsequent years, and the reports and plans of specific departments and cluster committees. The bulk of the documents are from 1993-1997. This part of the collection also includes documents pertaining to the Governor's Blue Ribbon Commission on Higher Education, most of which are dated between 1994 and 1999. The papers were recovered from The Brafferton following flood damage from Hurricane Isabel in October 2003, and many of them show significant water damage.
