Biographical Information:

Gustavus Adophus Myers was born August 9, 1801, the son of Samuel Myers and Judith (Hays) Myers. He was a lawyer in Richmond and served as president of Richmond Publishing Co., and director of Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad and Mutual Assurance Society. He was member of Richmond City Council. He married Anne Augusta (Giles) Conway and was father of artist, William Barksdale Myers. Myers died August 20, 1869 and was buried in Hollywood Cemetery. Scope and Contents

Letters written to Gustavus A. Myers, lawyer in Richmond, Va. Includes letters, 1858-1861, from John Augustine Washington, concerning his sale of "Mount Vernon" to Mount Vernon Ladies' Association; and Washington's Civil War service. The collection includes letters written by Oliver Wendell Holmes, Park Benjamin, and Conway Robinson.
