Abstract
A manuscript letter from J.B. Charlton, Lewisburg, West Virginia, to U.S. Senator Waitman T. Willey, petitioning for relief for the family of David S. Creigh and investigation into his execution. Creigh was sentenced to hang in 1864 by a court-martial, for the alleged crime of killing a Union soldier who entered his home. The trial and ruling were controversial. More information about Creigh can be found in A&M 2201, Preston Family Papers, box 1, and A&M 1561, Roy Bird Cook Papers, box 27, notebook 28.
