A "carte de visite" portrait photograph of Dr. George W. Morgan. Morgan studied medicine at West Virginia University and attended one course of lectures at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Baltimore (this was the standard practice for medical students at West Virginia University before the founding of the School of Medicine in 1902). After being licensed by the State Medical Board, Morgan practiced medicine in Winfield, the seat of Putman County; he died at the age of 26 during a typhoid epidemic. Includes biographical note from Mabel Brock Hartley, his descendant. The name of the photographer, R. R. Houghton, is printed on the back of the photograph.
