These items were given to the University of Virginia Library by Barbara Stoudt, Charlottesville, on October 4, 1995.
This collection consists of an article, January 14, 1964, from the newspaper Sunderland Echo, Sunderland, England, about the Holmes family estate "Bainbridge Holme," and a copy of The Travellers Pocket Map of South Carolina, 1830, formerly belonging to George Frederick Holmes (1820-1897), who became the first professor in the School of History and General Literature at the University of Virginia in 1857. Holmes continued to be an active member of the faculty until his death on November 4, 1897.
