Weeden was an officer in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.

Scope and Content Information

This collection consists of a two page letter, February 28, 1781, from General George Weedon (1734-1793) Fredericksburg, Virginia, to Virginia Governor Thomas Jefferson, Richmond, in which Weedon discusses the progress of assembling various units of Virginia militia to march to [Hanover?] Court House to receive further orders from the Baron [von Steuben?] and the need for additional boxes of ammunition. During the Yorktown campaign, under the direction of the recently elected governor, Thomas Nelson, Weedon commanded a brigade of 1,500 militia who were investing Gloucester.
