John T. Reily Letter to C.C. Shriner, 1886 April 1, Accession #11114, Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
This letter was found in Conewago: A Collection of Catholic Local History Gathered from the Fields of Catholic Missionary Labor Within Our Reach (F157.C75 R3) and was transferred from the Rare Books Division to the Manuscripts Division on November 30, 1993.
This collection consists of a two page autograph letter, April 1, 1886, from John T. Reily, publisher of The Martinsburg Herald , to Mr. C.C. Shriner, concerning his book Conewago: A Collection of Catholic Local History for which he hopes to sell enough copies to recover his cash expenses. He explains how much of his time and effort went into collecting the material, setting the type, and running the copies off the press. Reily also mentions that another volume of the birth and death records at Conewago would be useful for genealogists, and asks Shriner to collect for him any genealogical information about Robert Owing's family, the Shriner family, and the Lilly family.
