Scope and Content Information

This is a letter, April 29, 1800, from Thomas Jefferson in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to "Dear Sir," reiterating that he desires his three horses and chair to be sent from Monticello on the 16th of May to the home of John Wayles Eppes. This note was written during a crucial time in Jefferson's political career. He had just served a term as vice-president but had been displeased with the inactivity of the position. In the election of 1800, Jefferson and Aaron Burr tied in electoral votes, throwing the election into the House of Representatives. In this letter, Jefferson is making arrrangements for a few days rest at the home of his daughter, Mary (Jefferson) and her husband, John Wayles Eppes.
