The letter was purchased by the University of Virginia Library on November 17, 1994, from Vesta Gordon, The Book Broker, Charlottesville, Virginia.
Henry Clay (1777-1852) was a U.S. Senator from Kentucky.
This collection consists of an one-page autograph letter signed by Henry Clay, September 17, 1842, Ashland, [Kentucky], to A.M. January, concerning his route and other arrangements for an intended visit to Cincinnati, probably for a speaking engagement following his resignation from the Senate.
