Letters to Elizabeth Tagert, 1861-1878, Accession #11177, Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
The University of Virginia Library purchased this group of letters from Jerry N. Showalter, Bookseller, Ivy, Virginia, on May 4, 1995.
This collection consists of twenty-nine items, 1861, 1866, and 1870-1878, and undated, chiefly letters to Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth [Allen?] Tagert of New Market, Virginia, from her Allen cousins and uncles concerning family news and the settlement of her father's estate administered by David N. Walton of Woodstock, Virginia (1861 Mar 26; 1870 Mar 2; 1872 Oct 8; 1873 Jun 3; 1874 Jan 8, Feb 25; 1875 Jan 29; and n.d.). Her uncle Will J. Allen also wrote about her son Tommy coming to work on his farm in Westville, Indiana (1877 Oct 27, Dec 9; 1878 Apr 23 & May 12). Other correspondents include: cousin Reuben B. Allen of Mount Jackson, Virginia; cousin R.E. [McCann?] of Richmond, Virginia; cousin Ellie Allen of Westville, Indiana; and uncle Eli Allen, Champaign County, Ohio.
