This material was given to the Library by the Newberry Library of Chicago, Illinois, on June 30, 1995.
There are items, 1930-1941, chiefly correspondence, of Bushnell Miller, Cadillac Motor Car Company, Cadillac Building, Detroit, Michigan, and others concerning the picture of Robert E. Lee distributed by the Detroit and Security Trust Company, Detroit, Michigan. Correspondents include J. Sinclair Brown, Speaker of the Commonwealth House of Delegates, Richmond, Virginia and McPherson Browning, President, Detroit and Security Trust Company, Detroit, Michigan. There is also a related brochure entitled "A Talk Given on the Ford Sunday Evening Hour/Robert E. Lee/by W. J. Cameron/January 19, 1941." There is a letter, September 16, 1941, from Murray D. Van Wagoner, Governor, State of Michigan, Lansing, Michigan to Mrs. John E. Bushnell, Highland Park, Michigan, extending an invitation to the ceremonies planned for September 20 in Lansing to return to their prospective states the Confederate flags and swords preserved by the State of Michigan since the Civil War.
