James Weldon Johnson (1871-1932) was an African-American writer and a founder of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and its secretary from 1916 to 1930.
This photograph shows Johson sitting against a wooden post. It is signed on the bottom margin in blue ink: "James Weldon Johnson."
