Thomas Jefferson letter to Charles Simms, 1811, Accession #10992, Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
This letter was purchased by the Library on October 31, 1990, from Swann Galleries of New York, New York.
In this letter of November 4, 1811, Thomas Jefferson, at Monticello, Albemarle County, Virginia, writes to Colonel Charles Simms requesting his assistance in having "a cask of wine, a box of marble, a box of olives, & a bag of almonds" transhipped from Alexandria, Virginia, on a vessel bound for Richmond. He asks for the items to be addressed to Messrs. Gibson and Jefferson, and suggests payment arrangements through them. He mentiions that the wine is from the island of Majorca, Spain.
