The Robert Bly collection was transferred to the Manuscripts Division of Special Collections from the Rare Book Division on January 4, 1990.
Bly is an American poet who is also well-known as an editor, publisher, and translator, notably of the verse of Pablo Neruda, the Chilean poet. He won the National Book Award in 1968 for his book The Light Around the Body. Bly was also the founder and editor of the magazine The Seventies (formerly The Fifties and The Sixties ).
This collection consists of five items, 1981, all of which pertain to the production of the book of poetry The Man In The Black Coat Turns by Robert Bly (1926- ). These include two sets of galley proofs, page proofs, gatherings and sample pages. The galley and page proofs are significantly different from the finished product.
