The material of this collection was made a gift to Alderman Library in accordance with the wishes she expressed during her life by Mrs. Amanda Stewart Bryan Kane of Charlottesville, Virginia, on February 28, 1992.
There are sixteen items, 1929-1994, chiefly letters of Sister Lucy Julien Hill to Amanda Bryan Kane. Other items include a printed article; two photographs, 1929 and n.d., of Hill; a silhouette of an unidentified man; and, a letter postmarked July 5, 1994, from Shelah [Kane Scott], Charlottesville, to Anne Freudenberg, concerning the letters contained in this collection.
1944 Oct 23 Quebec, Canada: condolences and comfort on the
death of "Uncle Stewart" [John Stewart Bryan (1871-1944)];
mentions [his wife] "Aunt Anne" [Anne Eliza Tennant Bryan];
religious support.
1949 Jun 12 Angers, France: circumstances keeping her in
Angers until at least September, so not being able to leave to
meet Amanda [in Paris]; trying to make arrangements for Amanda
to travel to Angers, "a fascinating little town...in the
Chateau country"; mentions "Aunt Anne" [Anne Eliza Tennant
Bryan], May and Harry.
1967 Oct 20 Paris, France: the Kanes' -- Amanda and
Keith -- plan to visit Lyon, France and see Sister Lucy;
description of the convent; news of various visitors; "Aunt
Nellie's" death; Amanda's travels; visits from "Crash," Anne's

1974 Dec 29 Lyon, France: season's greetings with news
of and comments on family and friends; religious ceremonies;
refers to the sadness of Keith's absence this holiday season;
mentions Anne [Kane McGuire], Shelah [Kane Scott], Billy,
Frances, Hopie, Lee, Mary Wingfield Scott, and Alice.
1975 Feb 11 Lyon, France: enclosing for Amanda a
"beautiful letter of Keith's" sent to Sister Lucy in March
1973, and commenting on the spirituality of the letter.
