Acquisition Information

The material of this collection was made a gift to Alderman Library in accordance with the wishes she expressed during her life by Mrs. Amanda Stewart Bryan Kane of Charlottesville, Virginia, on February 28, 1992.

Scope and Content Information

There are sixteen items, 1929-1994, chiefly letters of Sister Lucy Julien Hill to Amanda Bryan Kane. Other items include a printed article; two photographs, 1929 and n.d., of Hill; a silhouette of an unidentified man; and, a letter postmarked July 5, 1994, from Shelah [Kane Scott], Charlottesville, to Anne Freudenberg, concerning the letters contained in this collection.

1944 Oct 23 Quebec, Canada: condolences and comfort on the death of "Uncle Stewart" [John Stewart Bryan (1871-1944)]; mentions [his wife] "Aunt Anne" [Anne Eliza Tennant Bryan]; religious support.

1949 Jun 12 Angers, France: circumstances keeping her in Angers until at least September, so not being able to leave to meet Amanda [in Paris]; trying to make arrangements for Amanda to travel to Angers, "a fascinating little town...in the Chateau country"; mentions "Aunt Anne" [Anne Eliza Tennant Bryan], May and Harry.
