The diary was deposited for microfilming on October 26, 1989, by Ms. Kathy Jones, Charlottesville, Virginia 22901 through the courtesy of Mr. Armstead Robinson, Director, Carter G. Woodson Institute for African and Afro-American Studies, The University of Virginia.
This manuscript diary, 1852-1880, by Georgina Frances Barrett Devlin of Yazoo City, Mississippi, was written in ink in a bound 128-page volume, of which only a few are blank.
Of special historical interest are the entries for the Civil War years, including a February 7, 1864 account of Black troops and of fighting near Yazoo City in February - December, 1864.
