World War I Postcards, 1914-1918, in the Joseph M. Bruccoli Great War Collection, Accession #10875-ac, Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
These postcards were all given to the University of Virginia Library on October 25, 1994, by Matthew J. Bruccoli, Bruccoli Clark Layman, Inc., Columbia, South Carolina.
This addition to the Joseph M. Bruccoli Great War Collection consists of twenty-three post cards, ca. 1914-1918, both in color and black and white, pertaining to World War I. Fourteen color postcards of United States military posters produced from the Collection of Meehan Military Posters, New York, include examples of the work of L.N. Britton, Charles Livingston Bull, Howard Chandler Christy, James Henry Daugherty, James Montgomery Flagg, Joseph Christian Leyendecker, Herbert Andrew Paus, and Sidney H. Reisenberg. Eight other postcards contain scenes of army life, including boxing, the American Camp and the German Prison Camp at St. Nazaire, France, Volleyball, a camp room, English tanks and American Infantry, crew of the U.S.S. Von Steuben , and "Don't Forget to Write"; and a book of twenty-four postcards all show scenes from the Battle of the Marne, "Grande Bataille de la Marne."
