World War I Postcards, 1914-1919, in the Joseph M. Bruccoli Great War Collection, Accession #10875-an, Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
This collection of postcards was given to the University of Virginia Library by George Coyle, Irvington, Virginia, through the Rare Books Division of Special Collections on November 8, 1995.
This addition to the Joseph M. Bruccoli Great War Collection consists of ca. 150, chiefly black & white postcards, ca. 1914-1919, showing French scenes from Paris, Chateau-Thierry, Saint-Denis, Tours, Nantes, Angers, Basse-Goulaine, Bourges, Rantes, Le Pellerin, Rueil - Chateau de la Malmaison & Napoleon, Ypres, and Locre. Other types of postcards include one of the U.S.S. Finland "The Ship That Brought Us Home," Allied Flags and Flowers, and a Liberty Bond promotional postcard that reads, "We eat lots of chow over here, and Liberty Bonds Pay for it."
The cards are arranged in envelopes in the order in which they were removed from the postcard album.
