World War I Scrapbook of Postcards and Photographs, 1914-1924, in the Joseph M. Bruccoli Great War Collection, Accession #10875-ap, Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
These items were given to the University of Virginia Library on June 20, 1996, by Matthew J. Bruccoli, Bruccoli Clark Layman, Inc., Columbia, South Carolina, as an addition to the Joseph M. Bruccoli Great War Collection.
This collection consists of sixty-eight photographs and post cards, ca. 1914-1924, removed from a scrapbook for preservation purposes and arranged into several categories such as individual soldiers, etc; groups of soldiers, cricket players, etc.; embroidered greeting cards; humorous and patriotic post cards; and post cards of European and British camp scenes sent chiefly to Mrs. and Nellie Partridge, Kings Head Hotel, East Hoathley, Sussex, England, by soldiers serving in the Great War. Most of the individuals and groups are unidentified. Those who are identified include: Ernest E. Elliot, [Handley Cross], Sergeant A. Johnston, "Archie," Hospital Cricket Team (1924), Officers W.O. & N. Co. No.7 Stationery Hospital (1914), St. Andrew [School] members, some in uniform (1916-1917).
