A.E. Housman Letter, 1935, Accession # 10743-a, Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
These items were transferred to the Manuscripts Division of Special Collections from the White-Hemingway Collection in the Rare Books Division on October 24, 1992.
This collection consists of two items, a letter, February 21, 1935, with envelope, from Alfred Edward Housman (1859-1936), poet and classical scholar, Trinity College, Cambridge, to The Reverend Greville Cooke, Cransby Vicarage, Kettering, authorizing him to do limited quoting from his poetry, with a separate autograph signature of Housman.
Housman writes, "I suppose you are intending to quote lines or stanzas from the poems side by side with the musical phrases of the settings. To this I make no objections whatever. I do not think that you should quote entire poems."
