The collection was a gift to the Library from the Society through its president, Mrs. John B. Rogon of Charlottesville, Virginia, on January 21, 1987.
This collection consists of ca. 100 items, 1980-1986, chiefly records of the Jeffersonian Wine Grape Growers Society of Albemarle County, Virginia. The earliest ones pertain to the founding of the Society; materials present include board minutes, correspondence, printed and miscellaneous materials.
The purpose of the Society is "to promote wine-making and appreciation, provide publicity for the Virginia wine industry, especially in Albemarle County; to sponsor grape harvest festivals, hold educational forums on viniculture and enology, and to promote the fellowship and exchange of ideas among persons sharing interests in the making of fine wines."
