This material was given to the Library by Mr. Tom G. Palmer of Fairfax, Virginia, on September 27, 1993.
This collection consists of ca. 125 items, 1977-1980 and 1993, concerning the Libertarian Party, particularly Ed Clark's 1978 California gubernatorial and 1980 presidential campaigns as the party candidate. The gubernatorial papers include the correspondence, 1977-1979, of campaign manager Edward H. Crane III, printed articles about Clark and the campaign, publicity materials including advertising schedules and press releases, and two speeches of Clark entitled "Basic Campaign Speech" and "Statement on Inflation." The correspondence pertains chiefly to funding and volunteers and strategy proposals for the gubernatorial campaign, and mentions the 1978 Convention of the National Libertarian Party. Also included in this folder is a "Confidential Report to the Los Angeles County Central Committee of the Libertarian Party of California on the 1979 National Convention." There is a report, December 1980, "CLARK FOR PRESIDENT: A Report on the 1980 Libertarian Presidential Campaign" by Edward H. Crane III, Communications Director, and Chris Hocker, National Coordinator. There is also miscellaneous printed material, 1978, concerning the Libertarian Party in general and the the party's National Committee. In addition, there is a 10 1/2 inch reel of magnetic audio tape labelled "Libertarian Party/Ed Clark/'Statements'."
