This addition to the Steptoe Family Papers consists of a manuscript written by Kevin Conley Ruffner entitled, "My Country's Bleeding Cause: John Steptoe and the Civil War," based upon his research in the Steptoe Family Collection, with source notes. The article was prepared for publication in The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography .
Also present are computer printout transcripts of nine letters from John Steptoe to Caroline Hampden Leftwich of Bedford County, Virginia , 1861-1862, edited by Ruffner and located in the Steptoe Family Collection (# 6515) at the University of Virginia.
