Eddie & the Queen: A log (Diary), 1981-1982, Accession #10204-ab, University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
This journal was made a gift to the Library on March 2, 1987 by Warren Chappell, Charlottesville, Virginia.
This journal was kept by Edwin Burton Kyle (1896-1986) while on a trip around the world on the Queen Elizabeth II during January through April 1981. The volume was a gift from Lydia and Warren Chappell. The cover design and title, "Eddie and the Queen: A Log," as well as the date and location inscriptions on the pages, are by Warren Chappell. There is also an inscription on the flyleaf by Chappell explaining the origins of this volume, and presenting it "as a small but intimate introduction to the Virginian who established the professorship in religious studies that bears his name."
Throughout the journal, Kyle has made brief entries of descriptions of places visited and personal observations. Places visited include: Curacao, West Indies; the Panama Canal; Acapulco, Mexico; Honolulu, Hawaii; Tongatapu, Tonga; Suva, Fiji Islands; Sydney, Australia; Port Moresby, New Guinea; Manila, Philippines; Hong Kong; Singapore; Colombo, Ceylon; Suez, Egypt; Haifa, Palestine (Israel); Piraeus, Port of Athens, Greece; Tangier, Africa; and Southampton, England. In addition, on January 18, 1982, Kyle inscribed the end flyleaf in remembrance of his trip.
