Acquisition Information

This collection was given to the Library by Mrs. Emily R. Opera of Sardinia, New York, through the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society on October 31, 1991.

Scope and Content Information

Sixteen blueprints and a linen drawing, 1932-1933, relating to alterations and property surveys of "Rocklands," the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Thompson Neale in Gordonsville, Virginia, comprise this collection. The alterations and additions to the residence were drawn by architect William Lawrence Bottomley of New York City, New York, and consist of a sketch of the cellar plan; drawings of the south, north, and west elevations; a contour map of the property with its elevations; the south elevation showing the new service and kitchen wing with the pantry, porch, and main building shown; and preliminary sketches of the house prior to the alterations.

A general plan showing the arrangement of the grounds and a survey of a portion of the property of "Rocklands" was drawn in 1933 by the Richmond landscape architect Charles T. Gillette. Because of their size, these two drawings are stored separately from the other blueprints.
