The letter was a gift from Mr. Thomas J. Budnick of Alexandria, Virginia, to the Library, on November 18, 1983.

Scope and Content Information

This item is a two-page letter signed by Confederate General Braxton Bragg, August 6, 1862, at his headquarters in Chattangooga, Tennessee, and was sent to General Samuel Cooper, adjutant and inspector general, Richmond, Virginia. Bragg urges changes in the method of promoting generals and encloses a list (not present) of general officers under his command.
