Bernard P. Chamberlain Papers, 1977-1982, Accession #10678, Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
The collection was a gift to the Library from Mr. Allen Gianniny, president of the Albemarle County Historical Society, Charlottesville, Virginia, through the estate of Bernard P. Chamberlain, on December 30, 1985.
This collection was previously accessioned by the Albemarle County Historical Society as ACHS 1907 .
This collection consists of ca. 400 items, 1977-1982, ca. one Hollinger box, chiefly correspondence, newsclippings, newspaper articles, financial and legal papers, reports, photographs, and miscellaneous related items pertaining to the establishment of a marker by the Albemarle County Historical Society over the gravesite of Hessian soldiers buried in the county during the Revolutionary War. These papers are from the files of Bernard P. Chamberlain and also concern litigation regarding the prevention of housing construction on the site. A report, "An Historic Cemetery in Albemarle County, Virginia . . ." provides background and descriptive information in detail of an archaeological investigation of the site.
