Papers of Jorge Luis Borges, 1924-1926, Accession #10155-q , Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
This collection was purchased from Alfredo Breitfeld, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 31, 1991.
This collection consists of two items. The first is a letter of 4 December 1924 from Borges to "Mendez," who was apparently associated with the publishers of Borges' book of poems Luna de Enfrente (Ediciones PROA: Buenos Aires, 1925). In a cordial and intimate tone, Borges discusses his thoughts on the two men's friendship, returning to Buenos Aires, and the forthcoming book. The second item is a signed autograph manuscript of Borges' poem "La vuelta a Buenos Aires," which appears in Luna de Enfrente . This version varies from that of the book that it carries the inscription "A Matilde" and is dated 1926, a year after the book's publication. In addition, two words which appear to have been transcribed from the book version were written here orginally and subsequently revised by the author.
The collection is accompanied by English transcriptions.
