This material was purchased by the Library from the Argosy Book Store, New York, New York, on March 29, 1990.
This collection of two items, 1972-1973, consists of a letter and a folder of drawings by John Edwin Canaday (1907-1985). Canaday was an art critic on The New York Times beginning in 1959, and wrote several books, including Metropolitan Seminars in Art and Lives of the Painters . He also wrote Keys to Art with his wife, Katherine Sarah Hoover. On February 4, 1973, he wrote to Marie Appleton expressing sentiments on her retirement from the Whitney Museum. He also sends to her an inscribed copy of "My Best Girls," a series of 8 of his drawings with a holograph introduction by himself, produced by the Archives of American Art.
