Letter of John Esten Cooke, Accession #8400-a, Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
This letter was purchased by the Library from David J. Holmes of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on March 27, 1991.
In this letter from John Esten Cooke, Briars, Boyce, Virginia, 1882 May 12, to [Eugene Lemoine ?] Didier, Cooke replies to an inquiry about art history in the Richmond area by directing Didier to [Robert Alonzo] Brock in the Virginia Historical Society, and Dr. [William Price] Palmer who was an amateur painter and art historian. He also mentions a Maria [Ward] picture belonging to Dr. [John Clifford] Skelton, formerly of Powhatan County, West Virginia, but presently residing in Richmond.
