Letters of Julia Magruder, Accession #8022-b , Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
This collection was purchased from David J. Holmes on October 14, 1996.
Julia Magruder, Castle Hill, Cobham, Albemarle County, Va.,writes to R.H. Stoddard June 20, 1892, regarding the publishing of manuscripts and other news including a trip to New York with Amelie Rives.
On November 19, 1901, she writes to Mr. Clemens, regarding a manuscript about the Pope, and a fee for a manuscript published by Harper's Bazar.
Mentions having to go to New York with Mrs. Chanler [Amelie Rives Troubetzkoy] causing the neglect of certain important matters. Asks for the return of her little manuscript and expresses interest in the possible publication of Barbara Dering's manuscript by his publishing house.
Regards her manuscript about the Pope "written with a view to publication at the time of the Pope's death," which she has had trouble selling to a magazine. Relates the history of the novelette, "The Romance of a Realist," and asks if he would be interested in publishing it.
