Papers of Elizabeth Coles Langhorne, Accession #7942-f , Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
This collection was given to the Library by Mrs. Elizabeth Coles Langhorne, Charlottesville, Virginia, on July 8, 1992.
This collection consists of 12 items: papers from 1866-1887, and 1924 pertaining to the Rives family of Albemarle County; and, a corrected typed carbon/electrostatic manuscript, 1973, of Nancy Astor and her Friends by Elizabeth Langhorne.
Papers relating to the Rives family include accounts, 1866-1887, of William C. Rives with Baring Brothers & Company of London (1866-1870); Munroe & Company of London (1870-1871); Williams & Gibson, Stock Brokers & Auctioneers (January 5, 1881); and, Carl Schoenhof, Importer of Foreign Books and Periodicals, Boston, Massachusetts (1886-1887). There is also a memorandum of agreement, March 9, 1875, between Henry H. Fay and William C. Rives, for the leasing of property in Newport, Rhode Island. Two letters, November 8 & 16, 1924, from "Gertrude," "Happy Creek," Albemarle County, Virginia, to William C. Rives, extend an invitation for a visit and send detailed instructions to travel from Washington, D. C. to "Happy Creek."
